When we decided to have the area around our new barn and existing driveway re – surfaced, we contacted several contractors for advice and a quote to complete the work. The last person we spoke to was Dwayne from McLaren Excavating, right from the start we were impressed by his professionalism and attention to detail, range of surfacing options and explaining the importance of levels in order to let surface water run off.
Out of the options Dwayne had provided and explained to us, we chose the Mclaren loose chip surface (despite us still having some reservations about how it would hold together over time).
Two years later and we are very happy with the way the surface has held together, it looks great, there has been no rake work and the improvement to our property is fabulous.

With winter fast approaching we were initially attracted by your advertisement offering a fast response, and the testimonials almost seemed too good to be true. To your credit and our immense satisfaction, the speedy response was actioned, with the quote being professionally presented within a few days of the site visit, and the work was undertaken earlier than the anticipated date given when we accepted your quote.
By the end of the first day it wasn't difficult to see that you and your team were totally focused on achieving the best possible job to meet our requirements. We were pleased to have your input and suggestions and were quite confident that you would make the best decisions on our behalf. Your high standards were reflected in your choice of team members and materials used, and the long hours worked to reduce any inconvenience were appreciated. I first
saw an advert in the local rag of
before and after shots of McLaren
Excavating work and was
impressed, not only by the
pictures but also the
testimonials. From the moment I
contacted Dwayne with the initial
phone call I received excellent
service, the first site visit was
made the very next day, the quote
was received shortly after and
was very competitive and
detailed. Dwayne’s team
stated a start date and turned up
on that exact date with no
delays. Dwayne and his onsite
team were fantastic and went the
extra mile with extreme care to
detail taken with ensuring the
driveway flowed well to the
existing property with ensuring
pathways were realigned etc. So
often you may read great
testimonials but you still get
let down on service, this is
definitely not the case with

 When we
moved to Teviot View Place we
inherited a 70 metre drive that
had supposedly been completed by
another contractor. We put up
with the drive for a year and
then decided enough was enough,
it needed sorting out.
We contacted Dwayne after we were
given his name by friends. We
were advised that he made site
visits within 24 hrs and would
supply a written quote within 48
hrs. This impressed us and
immediately made Dwayne stand out
from other contractors.
After meeting Dwayne at our
property we knew that we were
dealing with the ultimate
professional. We discussed the
drive and were very impressed by
his knowledge and suggestions to
solve areas of concern. By the
time he left we were convinced
that he was the man for the job.
His quote arrived on time, we
were happy with it, and gave him
the go ahead. Before work
commenced we also consulted with
Dwayne about some additional work
that we required and again he was
more than helpful and gave
invaluable advice that only years

 Once the
project was started we were very
aware of how skilled the guys on
site were. The job was to take 4
days, at the end of each day the
site was left clean and tidy and
the drive available for us to
use. As the job progressed it was
clear to see just how much was
involved in our driveway makeover
and we were both amazed at how
much work had been completed
within such a short space of
time.
Day 4 soon arrived and the guys
began to apply the finishing
touches with the precision and
care that made us realise just
how important customer
satisfaction was to McLaren
Excavating.
The site was cleared, the trucks
loaded and the guys left us for a
well earned beer!
We could now truly see what an
amazing transformation had taken
place. After the initial chat
with Dwayne we never had any
doubt that the drive would look
great, however we were still

 We began our
lifestyle development 18 months
ago and in doing so have used the
services of a couple of digger
operators for various stages of
clearing and initial layout, all

 In November I
engaged Dwayne’s services to
excavate the barn area, site
driveway access and dig the
basement area out for my home,
its fair to say there was no plan
or specifications we had plans
for our house structure only. So
my wife and I met with Dwayne to
ascertain our needs and wants,
Dwayne was extremely helpful and
was forthcoming with advice and
ideas to enhance our dreams.
The basement was excavated,
retaining walls cut, drive
formed, lake dug and the
structure started to take shape.
The home we built would be
classed as a commercial structure
rather than a house, our building
site foreman’s experience
was limited however it became
apparent that with Dwayne’s
care of communication, attention
to detail, experience and input
that a project manager in the
areas that Dwayne worked in was
unnecessary. Dwayne went to great
lengths to co-ordinate and work
in with all the other trades on
the site, often working after
hours so as not to inconvenience
the subsequent people. |
 Many aspects
of the project were left for
Dwayne to suggest ideas; one such
incident was the shape and
placement of the lake; Dwayne
explained the depth options,
lining options with pricing
indications and shape ideas to
better attract ducks and
wildlife. We are well pleased
with the outcome.
The project has had many stages
involving basement and house
benching, swimming pool
excavation, gabion basket
placement, hillside sculpting,
lake formation and lining,
extensive terrace backfilling,
driveway and garden formation. |
 The site was
clay based and this became very
slippery when wet, on two
occasions we needed an excavator
at short notice and another
company was used, upon the next
rain it become apparent how
cleanly Dwayne had operated his
excavator in comparison to the
other operators. He never let
spoil pollute the surfaces he
created leaving existing surfaces
both safe and functional.
The builders and foreman when
requesting machinery for another
stage always requested Dwayne and
appreciated Dwayne’s
responsiveness, attention to
detail and co-operative manner.
This project has taken two years
from commencement; it has been a
long project that has been
greatly enhanced with
specifically the direct input of
Dwayne Mclaren. For this input
Dwayne, we thank you.
